    Description

    This lovely signed carving of a polar bear was created by an Inuit artist in Campbell, Alaska.  His (or her) name is etched into the base of the carving but it is not entirely clear.  It seems to something like be
    Erriiqu James
    .  The town of
    Campbell, Alaska
    is also etched into the bottom of the piece.  The carving is very sympathetically done and is given particular poignance by inlaid argillite eyes.  There is also what seems to be a date carved into the underside of one paw:

    .  the carving is 3 1/8" long x 2" tall x 1 1/2" deep.  It is in excellent vintage original condition.
