ANTQ ENGLISH SHEFFIELD SIL PLATE HAND CHASED TRI FOLD CLAM SHELL BUN WARMER BOX

Description

For sale we have this extremely clean example of a hallmarked English antique Sheffield silver plate and gilt tri-fold clam shell bun/bread roll bun warmer or biscuit box.
We have not polished the piece. Instead we have left the warmer with its wonderful dark aged patina.  It could easily be polished to the desired luster.
The plating is in excellent condition.  Any darker areas on the photos are just shadows and NOT worn plating
The piece measures approx. 10" tall and approx. 13" across at its widest point when opened and 8 1/2" across (foot to foot) on each of its 3 sides when closed. It weighs approx. 3 1/4 lbs.
The entire piece is in overall excellent antique/vintage condition; there are no dents, repairs or monograms.
The gilt on all internal surfaces is excellent.
The intricately detailed hand chased design remains crisp.
Small springs attach to each of the gilt covers of the shell compartments and secure to the edge of the clam shell to hold its contents in place and to keep things warm.
Each of the three shell compartments operates on a spring mechanism to open and close; everything is in excellent secure working order.
The base has English hallmarks including the Sheffield silver plate crown (see photos).
There may be surface scratches below the patina commensurate with age and usage.
We photographed this item outside in full daylight in an effort to accurately capture its condition.

We list our shipping method as USPS although we will occasionally use other services (UPS, FedEx etc.) should they be more cost-effective, safer, and/or more convenient while still providing needed insurance options.
Please note: heavy items, fragile pieces, and fine jewelry will have higher domestic shipping costs based on the packaged weight and/or value of the item.
Shipping & handling fees will be calculated dependent on the item's final weight, the cost of insurance, packaging, and destination.
Some of our shipping methods for larger items (furniture, large signs etc.) include ForwardAir, which does not ship door to door.
