Coin History
1793 WREATH 1C
After public outcry over the Chain Cent, the Philadelphia Mint adopted the now-familiar Wreath design in April, 1793. Although examples are now among the most popular of all large Cents in the numismatic market, the type also proved unpopular with the contemporary public and was replaced before year's end. The Wreath Cent, therefore, is desirable as a one-year type. It is also a rare issue with just 63,353 pieces struck. One of the most significant and eagerly sought die marriages of the 1793 Wreath Cent is NC-3 - the Strawberry Leaf variety - of which only four examples are known.
